A number of Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to laud Ryan Edmondson after the young striker opened the scoring during the Whites’ under-23 side’s 2-1 victory over Hull City on Monday – despite picking up an injury in the minutes before the goal.

With Carlos Corberan able to pick a very strong side for the game – the likes of Jamal Blackman, Barry Douglas, Lewis Baker, Jack Harrison and Tyler Roberts all played at Thorp Arch – Edmondson would have known how important a good performance could be as he looks to keep knocking on Marcelo Bielsa’s door.

And while he did not stay on the pitch for the entirety of the first-half, he did manage to stake a claim to the Leeds boss as he broke the deadlock.

The goal itself was not the 17-year-old’s most memorable since his arrival at Leeds last season. Edmondson managed to tuck the ball home after some superb work from Jack Clarke down the right flank.

But given that the striker was clearly struggling with an injury that would force him off moments later, it was a goal that should see Edmondson come in for a lot of praise.

Before the goal, the teenager had chased down a long ball while limping, and then could hardly celebrate when he found the back of the net. It was a passage of play that hinted that he would have carried on if he needed to – and the fans are clearly delighted with that kind of attitude.

In fact, it appears that the supporters are just as pleased to see how Edmondson responded to the knock as the goal itself, and feel that that will stand him in good stead for the coming years.
