Robbie Gotts marked his recent contract extension with a fine performance for Leeds United’s Under-23 side on Monday.

The 19-year-old, who signed an extension until 2022 last week, played a blinder and scored in the Whites’ 2-0 win over Bolton yesterday afternoon.

He latched on to a fine pass from Hugo Diaz, before showing excellent composure to dink the Wanderers’ keeper – and here is how Leeds fans reacted to his latest showing:

Gotts is yet to make his senior debut for the Elland Road side, but Marcelo Bielsa has teased him and supporters by naming him on the bench on six occasions this season.

With Jack Clarke absent and Jack Harrison somewhat hit and miss, it seems probable that the younger could make his long-awaited bow before the season finishes.

Bielsa clearly has no qualms about using young players, with Clarke being 17 when he made his debut earlier in the campaign, but there is less room for experimentation now in light of Kemar Roofe’s setback.

The West Yorkshire side announced on Monday [official website] that Roofe, United’s leading goalscorer, had sustained knee ligament damage and he might not play again this season.

Promotion is of paramount importance for Leeds this season and Bielsa would be wise to play the percentages and focus on using experienced players from now until May, in order to boost the team’s hopes of returning to the Premier League.

Leeds are third in the Championship, two points behind top-of-the-table Norwich who have played one game more.
