Leeds fans react to Radrizzani’s apology for Christiansen appointment

Andrea Radrizzani has apologised to the Leeds United supporters for his decision to appoint Thomas Christiansen.

Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to slam Andrea Radrizzani after, in comments reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, he apologised for the decision to appoint Thomas Christiansen in the summer.

Christiansen was dismissed from his job shortly after the weekend defeat to Cardiff City that left Leeds 10th in the Championship, seven points off the top six. Unlike the transition between Garry Monk and Christiansen however, Leeds took little time to find his replacement, with Barnsley’s Paul Heckingbottom’s appointment confirmed on Tuesday.

And ahead of Heckingbottom’s first game as Leeds boss this Saturday, Radrizzani admitted that he had made a mistake with the appointment in the summer and issued an apology.

“Anything that doesn’t work is a mistake so yes, I did make a mistake,” Radrizzani said, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post. “I apologise to the fans and the club, and for my experience I need to learn and analyse better my choice before making it.”

Interestingly, the apology and the comments about Christiansen’s appointment have not gone down at all well amongst a decent section of the Leeds fans.

Though Christiansen’s tenure ended in disappointing fashion, there were plenty of signs earlier in the season which suggested that he was going to turn out to be a brilliant appointment by the Whites. Leeds topped the table in the early stages and remained right amongst the play-off mix around the turn of the year.

Christiansen’s tactics had been criticised, but he also endured some rotten luck with injuries and suspensions in the weeks leading up to his departure. And the way that he conducted himself during his time in charge has led many to suggest that Radrizzani has unnecessarily stuck the knife in by apologising for giving him the job in the first place.
