Leeds United fans were hoping for a favour from their former loanee on Sunday.

With Leeds one point clear of Norwich heading into Daniel Farke’s side’s clash with Ipswich Town on Sunday, many Whites fans were hoping for a big favour from former loanee Matthew Pennington.
On paper, the Canaries were overwhelming favourites at Carrow Road, with the Tractor Boys bottom of the Championship and Norwich heading back to the top if they avoided defeat.
Had Pennington helped Ipswich keep a clean sheet, it seems likely that the centre-back would have become a lot more popular amongst the Leeds fans than he was for much of his spell at Elland Road.
After initially appearing to be a very good loan signing for Leeds, the centre-back struggled for form and fitness and there were not too many Whites supporters kicking themselves when he did not return for another spell ahead of this season.

And unfortunately for Leeds, Pennington did not have the best afternoon as Ipswich were thrashed 3-0 by Norwich. He did not actually perform too badly, but it was his mistake that seemed to kill off the contest during the second-half.
Paul Lambert’s side played well after going a goal behind in the opening minutes, and were applying a lot of pressure as they looked for an equaliser. However, it was Pennington’s misplaced pass that allowed Norwich to counter and score a second goal that largely ended any hope of a turnaround.

And unsurprisingly, many of the Leeds fans were not happy with their former loanee…
