Former Leeds United midfielder Matt Grimes has been given a new contract with Swansea City.

Leeds United fans on Twitter are trolling Swansea City on Twitter.
The South-Wales side have given midfielder Matt Grimes a contract extension until 2022, with the 23-year-old enduring a very forgettable loan spell at Leeds a couple of years back.
Signed by Garry Monk, Grimes managed only one Championship start for the Elland Road club during the 2016-17 season, and didn’t play a single game past January after starting a shock 1-0 FA Cup defeat by Sutton.
That being said, the young midfielder, who has impressed in a left-back role this season, has clearly bounced back to form, starting 10 of the Swans’ 16 games as Graham Potter’s side sit three points adrift of a playoff spot.
But Leeds fans have still mocked the decision to extend his contract nonetheless.
It’s worth noting that Grimes had serious competition for a midfield place during his time at Elland Road, which might go some way toward explaining his failure to impress.
At the time, Monk had an in-form Eunan O’Kane, Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips who were both young and hungry after emerging from the academy, and Liam Bridcutt in his first full season in West Yorkshire.
A lot of decent central midfielders would struggle for regular football with that level of competition, so perhaps Grimes deserves the benefit of the doubt.
