Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has suggested that Liam Cooper is a doubt for Friday.

Several Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react to Marcelo Bielsa’s comments, which have been reported by Leeds Live, in which he suggested that Liam Cooper is a doubt for Friday’s home game with Wigan Athletic.

For the second time this season, Cooper suffered an injury during the warm-up ahead of Leeds’ clash with Sheffield Wednesday last weekend. He was replaced by Gaetano Berardi in the starting lineup as the Whites went on to record a 1-0 win.

Despite keeping a clean sheet, having Cooper back for the Latics’ visit would have been a real boost for Leeds. But Bielsa hinted that he is expecting to go into the game with the same lineup – though he stressed that the club captain is not completely ruled out either.

With Berardi still making his way back towards full fitness and sharpness, Bielsa may have been hoping that he would not need to rely on him too much when the stakes are so high. In fairness, the Swiss has been back for a while, but Cooper and Pontus Jansson’s partnership has developed significantly over the season.

And some of the supporters on social media feel that it is a real blow that Cooper currently looks set to not be back in time for Friday’s game. Wigan seem to be in something of a false position in the table – as difficult as that is to argue at this stage of the season – and could cause the automatic-promotion chasers problems.

However, some supporters are confident that Berardi will be able to step into the void just as he did against the Owls on Saturday.
