Liverpool are into the Champions League final against Real Madrid.
Liverpool are into the Champions League final after seeing off Roma on Wednesday night – though they didn’t exactly make life easy for themselves.
The Reds were 5-2 up from the first leg at Anfield after seeing Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah run riot, and it looked to be a foregone conclusion that Jurgen Klopp’s men would meet Real Madrid in the final.
Liverpool got off to the perfect start in Rome as Firmino teed up Mane to open the scoring, before James Milner’s unfortunate own goal levelled the scores on the night.
Georginio Wijnaldum made it 2-1 to Liverpool and 7-3 on aggregate, before Roma staged a stunning fight back with Edin Dzeko pulling one back, and Radja Nainggolan bagging a late brace to leave some Reds fans nervous.
However, Liverpool held on and will now head to Kiev later this month to take on Real Madrid, and will hope to pull off a remarkable victory that nobody could have predicted earlier this season.
Whilst Liverpool fans were ecstatic at reaching the final, Leeds United fans also had plenty to say given that Milner could lift the trophy having previously been in the academy at Elland Road.
A boyhood Leeds fan, Milner left the club for Newcastle United in 2004, and could now add silverware to his name which has sparked an outpouring of praise from Leeds supporters.
Many took to Twitter to share how proud they are of Milner having seen him break into the Leeds first time at the age of just 16 back in 2002, with many adding that they want him to win the Champions League and then return to Elland Road to help Leeds return to the Premier League in a somewhat ambitious dream.
