Izzy Brown’s bizarre loan spell with Leeds United took another twist at the weekend.

With Izzy Brown missing from the under-23 ranks that won their Premier League Cup quarter-final tie on Friday, it appeared more than likely that the loanee would be included in Leeds’ matchday squad for the first-team’s Championship clash with Millwall on Saturday.

Before missing the Sheffield United clash due to illness ahead of the international break, Brown had been a regular fixture on the bench in the weeks since Marcelo Bielsa deemed him to be fit and sharp enough to contribute to the senior side.

His one appearance for the first-team came in the defeat at Queens Park Rangers. The stage appeared to be perfectly set on that night for Brown to make himself an instant hero for the Whites having come on in the 81st minute.

Leeds were a goal down, playing quite poorly – particularly in the final third – and desperately needed some inspiration. Unfortunately for Brown, he managed to contribute one touch and has not been seen on the pitch for the senior side since.

His form for the under-23s has however, provided reason for encouragement. And his absence on Friday seemed to suggest that he was going to be in squad against the Lions the following day.

However, Brown was nowhere to be seen when the lineups were announced, and that prompted some of the Leeds fans on social media to wonder whether they have perhaps seen the last of the attacking midfielder in the first-team.

It remains to be seen if he had any sort of knock or injury, but the signs are worrying for the youngster. There was a time around the turn of the year when supporters were extremely excited about the impact Brown would make when he returned from injury. But it has just not happened for him at Elland Road.

And while one fan joked that he will make himself the hero with the final day goal that sends Leeds to the Premier League, plenty of supporters have given up on the idea of Brown getting another chance – particularly after his absence on Saturday and the incredible win that the team would produce.
