Leeds United fans got to see Hugo Diaz make his debut for the senior side in their recent Championship defeat.

A number of Leeds fans have praised Hugo Diaz and expressed their desire to see him given more opportunities after he got the chance to make his Whites debut during the recent clash with Preston North End.
No area of the field has arguably given Paul Heckingbottom more headaches – from an injury perspective, anyway – than at centre-back. Heading into the clash with the Lilywhites, Leeds had Matthew Pennington and Liam Cooper injured, while potential makeshift option Gaetano Berardi began a five-game ban after his red card in the draw with Sunderland last weekend.

Under-23 skipper Paudie O’Connor made his debut against the Black Cats, and Heckingbottom was forced to dip into Carlos Corberan’s side once again on Tuesday with Hugo Diaz being handed a call-up to the bench for Preston.
And Diaz got the chance to make his senior bow as Jansson came off during the early stages of the second-half due to an injury. While Leeds would concede once more while the 21-year-old was on the pitch, as the game ended in a 3-1 win for the home side, there was something for Heckingbottom to be slightly more optimistic about with another academy starlet getting a brief taste of first-team football.

While Leeds’ recent run has left the majority of the supporters feeling completely pessimistic about next season for various reasons – Heckingbottom, director of football Victor Orta and owner Andrea Radrizzani are all coming in for serious scrutiny – the academy players stepping up in recent weeks has given the fans something to be hopeful about.
Unsurprisingly therefore, a number of supporters were full of praise for Diaz when he took to social media after the defeat to Preston, suggesting that he had done well given the circumstances and his chance to make a further impact for the first-team should not be too far in the future.
