The Leeds United goalkeeper made a mistake for Queens Park Rangers’ consolation goal this weekend.
Leeds United goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald has come in for plenty of criticism this season, and his latest performance added more fuel to the fire of those supporters who feel the German is simply not good enough to be a long-term option at Elland Road.
The former Werder Bremen stopper recently returned to Leeds’ starting line-up in place of Andy Lonergan, who has also been blasted for some of his outings in the current campaign and, while the Whites ran out comfortable winners thanks to Kemar Roofe’s hat-trick, Wiedwald still had a moment to forget.
The Leeds ‘keeper inexplicably allowed Pawel Wszolek’s cross to bounce over him with time running out, but Roofe’s injury-time finish ensured he left with the match ball and his goalkeeper was not left to lick his wounds.
The problem for Leeds is that they went from the experienced Rob Green to the erratic Wiedwald and the alarmingly uncertain Lonergan and their manager Thomas Christiansen will be hoping his decision does not prevent them from securing promotion come May.
Wiedwald has his fans at Elland Road, and in time he may iron out the problems, but as long as the mistakes continue most will wonder why he was signed in the first place.
