The Leeds United star will miss the rest of the season.

Leeds United’s Ezgjan Alioski has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Alioski suffered a knee injury early on in Leeds’ 2-0 defeat at Brentford on Monday and will now undergo surgery, ruling him out for potentially two months.

It never rains but it pours for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, whose automatic promotion hopes suffered a likely fatal blow at Griffin Park yesterday.

United’s Director of Football Victor Orta expressed his disappointment over losing the Macedonian’s ‘quality’.

He told Leeds’ official website: “We are disappointed by the news that Gjanni is unlikely to play again this season.

“He has shown his quality throughout the year playing in various positions, he is popular figure around the club who always puts his team mates first and sets an example for the younger players.”

Here’s how fans of the Elland Road club reacted to the setback:

Bielsa’s side host Aston Villa this weekend and there’s a number of potential candidates to replace Alioski, who has spent much of the year as a left-back.

The best man for the job is Barry Douglas, but the former Wolverhampton Wanderers defender was also ruled out for the season in recent weeks.

If Leeds are going up, it looks increasingly likely that it’ll have to be through the playoffs and time will tell how Alioski’s setback affects things.
