Leeds United have been handed a plum tie away at Premier League side Liverpool in the quarter finals of the EFL Cup.

The Whites came through a dramatic encounter against Norwich City on Tuesday, beating them on penalties after a 2-2 draw in 120 minutes, and have been handed a trip to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on Tuesday night to book their place in the last eight, but will now have to be wary of a cup upset against Garry Monk’s impressive Leeds side.

The fixture will spark memories of the Premier League battles between the two sides in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, such as Leeds’ famous 4-3 win over Liverpool at Elland Road, in which Mark Viduka scored four times for Leeds.

Leeds will be hoping to pull off another away day victory over a Premier League giant, almost seven years since Jermaine Beckford’s goal handed them a 1-0 win at Manchester United.

After the draw was made on Wednesday evening, Leeds fans took to Twitter to react to the draw, with many harbouring ambitions of an upset at Anfield, believing that Monk can guide Leeds to a shock win.

Others suggested that it’s a game that Leeds have little chance of winning, and some would’ve preferred the game to be at Elland Road rather than Anfield, but there certainly appears to be excitement about this fixture.

Some fans even looked ahead to the battle between Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge and Leeds’ imposing centre back Pontus Jansson, with many looking forward to the Swede dominating Liverpool’s big-name forward.
