Leeds United have been linked with the Middlesbrough striker.
The Northern Echo reported on Wednesday that Leeds United are among the clubs looking at Middlesbrough striker David Nugent.
The 31-year-old striker has only managed four Premier League appearances for Boro this season – all from the bench and none yielded goals – and it would appear as if he is surplus to requirements under manager Aitor Karanka at the moment.
He has not kicked a ball for Boro since the middle of September and a move away from The Riverside seems like it could be on the cards.
Leeds might well be in the market for a striker given that manager Garry Monk does not have brilliant options beyond Chris Wood, who has 11 Championship goals.
Marcus Antonsson has struggled to break into the first team since his £2 million switch from Kalmar, while Souleymane Doukara is probably not going seriously threaten the New Zealand international’s number nine shirt in West Yorkshire.
The Whites need another goalscorer, but is Nugent – who scored eight times in 38 Championship appearances last season – the answer? Leeds fans were rather conflicted on Twitter following the news.
