Leeds United have announced that Conor Shaughnessy has been loaned to Mansfield Town.

The 23-year-old hasn’t played for the Whites in over a year after being withdrawn at half-time in a League Cup defeat last August.

Shaughnessy, who made his senior Leeds debut under Thomas Christiansen two years ago, is the third player to leave West Yorkshire today.

Laurens De Bock has signed for Sunderland on loan, while Vurnon Anita has been released.

The Irishman was quite a popular player at the beginning of the 2017-18 campaign and played in the opening-day win at Bolton Wanderers.

Here’s how Leeds fans reacted to his departure:

Shaughnessy, whose contract expires in 2021, spent the second half of last season on loan at Hearts but didn’t have an exceptional stay in Scotland.

Mansfield are 19th in League Two and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares in the fourth tier of English football.

His former Leeds team-mate and compatriot Paudie O’Connor is also a League Two player with Bradford City, though his switch to Valley Parade earlier in the summer was on a permanent basis.
