Leeds United took the lead in their latest Championship clash, but ultimately suffered yet another defeat.
Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to express their frustration once again after Paul Heckingbottom’s side were beaten 3-1 away at Preston North End, with much of the discontent being directed at Caleb Ekuban.
After a torrid start to his tenure, Heckingbottom may have allowed himself to think that his luck may be starting to change when the returning Kemar Roofe gave the visitors the lead at Deepdale in the first 13 minutes.
However, Preston would turn the game around in the second-half, scoring three times to bag the three points and hand Heckingbottom yet another defeat that leaves the pressure on the head coach.
Like several of his teammates, Ekuban looked bright early on, but it was another disappointing night for the young striker as he missed another good chance at a time when a goal could have swung some much-needed momentum back Leeds’ way.
Unsurprisingly, the fans have needed little encouragement to vent their frustration towards Ekuban’s performance as it is not the first time that he has shown bright moments but then failed to show anything like a lethal touch in front of goal. His current league tally matches Chris Wood’s, and he has not played for Leeds since leaving in August.
For many, it is the final straw – if that has not come already – and they are certain that Ekuban does not have a future in the Leeds first-team after his latest performance. Whether Heckingbottom thinks the same way remains to be seen, but he may be asking for trouble if he remains in the starting lineup against Aston Villa on Friday.
