Aston Villa’s financial problems took a dark turn yesterday when the club was threatened with a winding up order.

Sky News reported CEO Keith Wyness was suspended by the FA after the club missed a tax payment.

After missing out on promotion to the Premier League in the play-off final, Villa face a very uncertain future.

If there is one set of fans who understand what Villa are going through, then it is those who support Leeds United.

Leeds United fans celebrate after the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road on February 25, 2017 in Leeds, England.

The club crashed from the Premier League into League One just over a decade ago and were threatened with winding up orders and were placed in administration with a 15 point penalty.

That was back in 2006/07, and while Leeds have stabilised, they have never really recovered, bouncing around from one owner to another, from crisis to crisis, and lacking direction on the pitch.

Leeds fans, as ever, are hoping this year will be different, and while they are optimistic, Villa fans are bracing for a very worrying future.

With this in mind, Leeds fans believe Villa have taken their title as English football’s biggest basket case of a club, while some sympathise with their Championship competitors.
