Leeds United need their leaders to step up more than ever and give them hope heading into next season.

But when defender Pontus Jansson was asked about his future at the club this week he gave a very lukewarm response.

Quizzed by Swedish outlet Expressen, Jansson said that he heeds to be convinced about Leeds’ plans.

Jansson said: “We’ll see what’s happening, I want to hear from the club how to look next year and so on.”

The centre-back signed a new four-year deal last Autumn, but he is right to be concerned about the club’s lack of progress.

This time last season Leeds were in the thick of the play-off race and angling for promotion.

Leeds have won just one game in 2018 and are facing a critical summer.

On one hand it is understandable star defender Pontus Jansson wants to see a show of ambition from the club, if he is to realise his dream of playing in the Premier League.

Perhaps it is a case of lost in translation too, with Jansson may be being modest and simply wanting assurances that he is still wanted at the club, with owner Andrea Radrizzani blasting several of the club’s regulars.

Leeds fans are concerned though, that if Jansson is not convinced about Leeds’ direction, he would consider jumping ship and taking the chance to play in the Premier League if presented with one.

Here is a look at the reaction to his comments…
