Pascal Struijk was excellent as Leeds United’s under-23 side produced a dramatic victory in the Premier League Cup.

Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Pascal Struijk’s performance during the Whites’ under-23 side’s stunning victory against Fulham that has sent them through to the quarter-final of the Premier League Cup.

Carlos Corberan’s side produced a mammoth effort to take their tie with the Cottagers to penalties. The two sides played out a 2-2 draw across 120 minutes, but Leeds played much of the game with 10 men with goalkeeper Harrison Male being sent off shortly after the break in normal time.

The home side then went on to win 5-4 on penalties, with Izzy Brown, Gaetano Berardi and Jack Clarke amongst those to successfully convert their spot-kicks.

Another player to find the back of the net from 12 yards was Struijk, who played alongside Berardi at the heart of the defence. And judging by the reaction to his performance, it appears that many supporters felt that he outshone the first-team stalwart.

The 19-year-old seemed to be everywhere throughout the 120 minutes. He read the game superbly at the back and was not afraid to try and get forward and ask questions of the Fulham backline.

Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper have been superb of late, so it is little surprise that the in-form Dutchman is still awaiting the chance to make his first-team debut for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

But based on what some of the supporters made of his display on Thursday night, it may be a matter of time before Struijk is putting pressure on the likes of Berardi, and maybe even giving Cooper and Jansson just a little something to think about.
