Leeds United fans have been left stunned by their former manager’s claim about one of their former defenders.

When Liverpool announced that they had signed Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in a deal that Sky Sports are reporting to be worth £75 million, few would have imagined that around 24 hours later, it would be Neil Warnock who was doing the best job of keeping the news in the spotlight.
In reality, the Reds breaking the world record fee for a defender is newsworthy enough, but Warnock – who never seems to shy away from grabbing the spotlight – has managed to take the headlines with a surprising claim that has prompted plenty of ridicule on social media, especially amongst Leeds United fans.

Bamba has been a key man for Warnock’s Bluebirds this season, often looking inspired for the side. However, the claims have been ridiculed from the large majority of football fans, and Leeds supporters are certainly no different.

Warnock does not enjoy the best relationship with the Whites fans after his poor tenure at the club as manager, while Bamba’s spell as a player at Elland Road is remembered for his brilliant loan spell, and his almost complete loss of all form once he was signed permanently.
And the Leeds fans who have been left scratching their heads after Warnock’s statement have had no problem attempting to remind him of the time when Ross Barkley could not get a look-in while on loan with his Leeds side – as players such as Michael Tonge and Michael Brown were preferred – in an attempt to prove that his assessments of players can perhaps sometimes be wide of the mark.
Here is what some of the Leeds supporters had to say after their former manager’s comments about their former defender and the comparison with a player now worth £75 million…
