Mason Bennett has suggested that he was fuming over Leeds United sending a member of staff to Derby County’s training ground.

Several Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to mock Mason Bennett after the Derby ace told Derbyshire Live that the Rams were ‘fuming’ over the Spygate saga from earlier in the season.

The Whites were fined £200,000 after Marcelo Bielsa admitted to sending a member of staff down to Derby’s training ground ahead of the two sides’ meeting at Elland Road in January.

The incident divided opinion amongst football. No rules were broken, and some felt that Bielsa had done nothing wrong, but others decided that the Leeds boss had acted against the spirit of the game. But the whole saga quickly became about which pundit could provide the most absurd opinion to keep the discussions going.

And unsurprisingly, the discussions have started up again after Derby secured sixth place on the final day of the Championship season to ensure that they will face Leeds in the play-off semi-finals, starting this weekend.

And in comments reported by Derbyshire Live, Bennett explained that Frank Lampard’s men were fuming about the Spygate affair, before adding that Leeds could send anyone they wanted to watch their training session this week.

Plenty of Leeds supporters have questioned why Bennett and Derby have such a problem if they are now happy for someone to be sent down, while others have poked fun at the 22-year-old by insisting that they are not too sure who he is.
