Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa was asked about his Elland Road future.
Plenty of Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Marcelo Bielsa’s response – as reported by Leeds Live – when he was asked during his pre-match press conference this week whether he plans to stay at Elland Road beyond the end of his current contract.
Bielsa has been a revelation at Leeds this season. The Whites are right in the automatic-promotion mix – they will go back to the top of the Championship with a win against QPR on Tuesday night.
What he has done with the squad is all the more remarkable because, barring a couple of additions, Bielsa is working with the same group of players that Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom helped lead to a mid-table finish last season.
Leeds fans would clearly love to see Bielsa stay for as long as possible – with many suggesting that that would be the case regardless of whether they secure promotion or not.
But when asked about what his future may hold, the Argentinian suggested that a decision will be taken at the end of the campaign.
“We draw the conclusion at the end of the season to see if we achieve the goals or not and we take a decision from that,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live, when asked if he could stay beyond his current contract.
Some of the supporters believe that Bielsa’s comments drop a clear hint that getting promotion or missing out will be what decides whether he stays at Leeds beyond this season.
But one thing that is definitely clear is that the overwhelming majority of the Whites faithful want few things more than they want Bielsa to still be perched on a bucket at the side of the Elland Road pitch when next season comes around.
