Plenty of Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that the club announced on their official website that Jack Jenkins has signed his first professional contract at Elland Road.

It is a fantastic time to be an academy player at Leeds. Marcelo Bielsa has left the path clear for youngsters to force their way into the first-team fold with several senior players sustaining long-term injuries already this season.

The likes of Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton have led the way, but there have been a host of academy starlets or graduates who have enjoyed prominent roles in Bielsa’s plans this term.

Jenkins may have some way to go before he is on Bielsa’s radar, but Leeds have sent a signal that he is one player to look out for in the coming years after it was announced on the club’s official website that he has signed a pro deal that is set to run until 2021.

In response to the news there have been plenty of messages of congratulations for the 17-year-old midfielder. But there have also been some responses that are clearly aimed at the Leeds hierarchy.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that the Whites are closing in on a deal for Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, while the Daily Mail has suggested that the Whites want to hand Clarke a new contract as he attracts Premier League attention.
