On 24 January 2018, the Whites unveiled a new crest design – but it didn’t go down well. One year on, what progress has been made on this front?

One year ago today, on 24 January 2018, Leeds United unveiled their new crest, a design which, according to the club, took six months of research and consultations with 10,000 people to design, and would be ready for the next century.
Now, we all know how that worked out in terms of fan reaction, but just to refresh the memory, let’s have a look at comments from some Whites fans when it was unveiled on the club’s Twitter page:
Since that ill-fated unveiling, it’s all gone a bit quiet on the badge front, with the Yorkshire Evening Post reporting how over 77,000 people signed a petition asking Andrea Radrizzani to stop the design launch, and the plans subsequently delayed until the beginning of the 2019-20 season – the club’s centenary year.
Last week, there appeared to have been an update when Luke Ayling was spotted wearing clothing which featured a club crest not previously seen before, but according to the YEP, this new design is a “leisurewear badge” and not a club crest.
Here is what it looks like:
With the club doing so well in the Championship under Marcelo Bielsa, there understandably hasn’t been much focus over the badge for a while, but some fans commented on Twitter regarding the one-year anniversary of that design:
Given this issue remains unresolved as of yet, and last year’s unveiling caused such a stir, there are bound to be more questions asked regarding what their crest will be going forward.
