Leeds United’s under-23s won on Monday, and Hugo Diaz put in a superb performance.

Plenty of Leeds fans on Twitter have lauded Hugo Diaz’s performance following the under-23 side’s 2-0 victory against Bolton Wanderers at Elland Road on Monday.
Carlos Corberan’s men were looking to move themselves one step closer to winning their league title, but they were made to work hard for the victory with the goals from Jordan Stevens and Robbie Gotts both coming in the second-half.
He may not have scored, but it was Diaz who stole many of the headlines with a superb display. The 22-year-old provided both of the assists with sumptuous passes for his teammates. His pass for Stevens, in particular, would have arguably not looked out of place had it been played by a top Premier League player as it deliciously cut through the Bolton defence.
It was an interesting day for the Spaniard as he was asked to play in the holding role that Kalvin Phillips has thrived in for the first-team this season.

Normally a centre-back, Diaz put in a very assured performance. He showed his flair on the ball and continued to provide that bite that helped the likes of Aapo Halme and Gaetano Berardi at the back. Unsurprisingly, he was booked.
Diaz has not made a senior appearance since making his debut under Paul Heckingbottom towards the end of last season. But if he continues to play as he did on Monday, it surely cannot be too long before he is on Bielsa’s radar.

Here is how some of the fans reacted to Diaz’s display, including a comment from one supporter who compared the youngster with arguably the greatest footballer in the world…
