Leeds United’s rivals Huddersfield Town are staying in the Premier League.

The Huddersfield Town team celebrate avoiding relegation after the Premier League match between Chelsea and Huddersfield Town at Stamford Bridge on May 9, 2018 in London, England.

Huddersfield Town have again defied the odds and will avoid relegation from the Premier League after a 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Wednesday night.

The Terriers picked up a 0-0 draw at Manchester City on Sunday, and knew that a point at Stamford Bridge would see them safe and effectively relegate Swansea City.

Laurent Depoitre’s calm finish from Aaron Mooy’s lofted ball gave Huddersfield the lead, but Marcos Alonso equalised for the top four-chasing Blues.

Chelsea were banging on the Huddersfield door and forced a stunning save from Jonas Lossl, but Huddersfield stood strong and claimed their point, guaranteeing their Premier League status for next season.

David Wagner’s men weren’t tipped for promotion from the Championship last season, never mind staying in the Premier League this term as one of the ‘smaller’ teams to make it to the top flight, and their success has been remarkable.

Unsurprisingly, Huddersfield’s superb night caught the attention of Leeds fans, many of whom suggested that the Whites – who lost to the Myanmar National League All-Stars on Wednesday – could take a leaf out of Huddersfield’s book with their passion, desire and commitment.

Others congratulated Huddersfield on staying up, or even suggested that Leeds are still the biggest team in Yorkshire despite Huddersfield’s continued stint in the Premier League.
