Gaetano Berardi was once again the Leeds United hero despite not being included in the squad for their latest Championship win.

Gaetano Berardi’s cult-hero status amongst the Leeds fans appears to have somehow reached new levels after his celebration following Kemar Roofe’s Boxing Day winner was caught on camera.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have moved three points clear at the top of the Championship as they scored twice in stoppage-time to beat Blackburn Rovers 3-2 at Elland Road.
Understandably, Roofe’s winning goal sparked the most incredible celebrations. Many felt that Pontus Jansson’s remarkable run around the pitch set the benchmark until the camera pointed itself towards Leeds’ bench.
Initially, it appeared that two of Leeds’ backroom staff were trying – and failing – to restrain a supporter who had got to the bench. But then it became apparent that the coaches were celebrating.

And the person that they were celebrating with turned out to be Berardi.
The defender has been sidelined for a while due to injury and was not in the squad for the game. But he showed absolutely no sign of being injured as he produced an incredible reaction to Roofe’s winner.

Bielsa’s translator Salim Lamrani posted the video of Berardi’s celebration on Twitter after the game and joked that the Swiss had lifted him with one hand. Unsurprisingly, many of the fans were not surprised and lauded Berardi for the incredible moment.
Here is the video as well as some of the responses and reaction from the supporters…
