Leeds United sold Sam Dalby to Watford this summer, and he has already provided a glimpse of his potential.

A number of Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the club’s decision to let Sam Dalby leave Elland Road this summer after the striker scored a hat-trick for Watford’s under-23s at the weekend.

Dalby’s departure was an intriguing one. The Whites landed the 19-year-old from Leyton Orient in 2018, and he initially appeared to be jostling with Ryan Edmondson for the striker spot in Carlos Corberan’s under-23 side.

However, Edmondson soon seemed to surpass his teammate. And while he was getting closer to the first-team fold and being talked about as a player that Marcelo Bielsa could turn to during the promotion race run-in, Dalby was heading for a loan spell at Morecambe, where he made just two appearances.

So it caught many off-guard when it was announced this month that he secured a move to the Premier League, with the Hornets handing him a two-year deal.

But he has made the perfect first impression with Watford by scoring a hat-trick against RB Leipzig’s under-19 side at the weekend. And that prompted a mixed response from the Leeds fans on social media.

Some have slammed the club for letting Dalby go and feel that his hat-trick may be a sign that the Whites have made a big error. Meanwhile, others have been quick to point out that the striker did little while at Thorp Arch, and there is no reason to get carried away after he bagged a treble against an under-19 side.
