Leeds United are searching for a new manager with Garry Monk’s resignation being confirmed by the Championship side.
Leeds have announced Garry Monk’s resignation
Leeds United fans have been reacting on Twitter following the news that the club confirmed on their official website that Garry Monk has resigned as manager of the Whites.
Monk enjoyed a largely fantastic first season with Leeds, guiding them to the cusp of the play-off places in the Championship and helping inspire an atmosphere around the club that suggested that something special was happening, and could continue to happen if the side enjoyed a productive summer.
Garry Monk enjoyed an excellent year at Elland Road
Monk’s contract at Elland Road expired this summer, but Andrea Radrizzani only recently spoke about his desire to take up the option in Monk’s contract to extend the deal by another year and then discuss potentially agreeing a long-term contract with the former Swansea boss following his full buy-out of the club earlier this week (via club’s official website).
Unsurprisingly, the news has led to a huge number of fans taking to social media to express their anger and disbelief at the news.
Monk guided Leeds to seventh in the Championship
While some – perhaps with Radrizzani’s insistence that he wanted to keep Monk in mind – have criticised the now former boss for his decision, many are expressing a feeling of acceptance.
Leeds have become notorious for creating their own hurdles to climb over in recent years, and without knowing all the facts surrounding why Monk has decided to resign, some supporters fear that the club may be just as much to blame for the departure.

However, the overwhelming feeling on social media is one of incredible disappointment due to what Monk was achieving at Elland Road.
Here is the best of the reaction…
