Leeds United have confirmed that they have terminated Vurnon Anita’s contract at Elland Road.

A number of Leeds fans have taken to Twitter after the club announced on their official website that they have terminated Vurnon Anita’s contract by mutual consent after more than two years on their books.
Anita’s arrival at Elland Road appeared to be a good piece of business for the Whites, with the Dutchman making over 130 league appearances for Newcastle and joining Leeds on a free transfer.
He made 18 appearances during his first year with United. Anita predominantly played in defence as Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom struggled to find a permanent solution to the left-back issue that plagued the club that season.
Marcelo Bielsa seemed to make his mind up about the 30-year-old very quickly, and he would spend the large majority of last season on loan with Willem II.

And with the European transfer window about to close, Leeds have decided that it would be best for all parties to release Anita from his contract, with the club confirming on their official website that he has left by mutual consent.
Unsurprisingly, the news has not been met by a negative reaction from the Elland Road faithful on social media. Some supporters have spoken of the optimism that followed when his arrival was confirmed at the launch of the club’s kit ahead of the 2017/18 campaign. It is clear that the fans are in agreement with Leeds and Anita himself that it was definitely time to part ways.
