Former Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Birmingham City boss Garry Monk is back in the Championship with The Owls.

While Garry Monk is still held in high regard by Birmingham City fans despite the messy end to that particular divorce, it seems his marriage with Leeds United was never a happy one – even if it looked pretty rosy from the outside.
Monk guided Leeds to seventh in his one and only campaign in charge at Elland Road, their best league finish in six years. But even a season-long flirtation with the play-offs couldn’t paper over the growing cracks that were appearing in West Yorkshire.
Monk frequently found his tactics being questioned by the Leeds supporters, even before a late-season collapse cost them a place in the top six. Their midfield was almost non-existent at times and, if it wasn’t for the exploits of 27-goal top scorer Chris Wood, a return to the Premier League would have never even registered as a possibility.

And then there was the departure. Monk walked out just two days after Andrea Radrizzani completed his takeover of the club with a number of furious fans convinced that he had followed the money up to Middlesbrough.
So with Monk returning to Championship football as the new manager of Sheffield Wednesday, it’s fair to say Leeds fans aren’t exactly willing him to succeed.
