Leeds United suffered a 2-1 loss to Newport County on Sunday afternoon.
Leeds United playmaker Samu Saiz has been banned by the Football Association for six matches after they found the Spaniard guilty of spitting during his side’s 2-1 loss to Newport County – and fans have blasted their star player on Twitter.
Thomas Christiansen’s side were victims of one of the biggest giant killings of the FA Cup’s third round, as League Two side Newport came from behind to win.
Gaetano Berardi had given Leeds the lead with a low long-range strike that deceived Joe Day in what was his first career goal, but an own goal from Conor Shaughnessy and a late header from Shawn McCoulsky knocked Leeds out.
Saiz, 26, was brought on to the field of play in the 75th minute, but was sent off in injury time after being accused by referee Mike Dean of spitting at County winger Robbie Willmott during a scuffle in the middle of the park.
The summer signing from Huesca has already been accused of spitting this season by former Port Vale manager Michael Brown, who said Saiz had spat in the face of one of his players during Leeds’ 4-1 win in the Carabao Cup.
Leeds fans fumed after hearing of Saiz’s six-game ban, with one fan claiming Saiz “has the mentality of a 10-year-old”. The Whites do have the right to appeal the decision but if found guilty, he will be sidelined until Leeds face Derby on February 20.
