Leeds United are in the running for Oli McBurnie, but Glasgow Rangers have made a sizeable bid to bring the striker to Ibrox.
A number of Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to express their frustration or their surprise at reports that recently emerged from The Sun which suggested that Rangers had made a £4 million bid for Oli McBurnie ahead of the summer.
McBurnie enjoyed a sensational loan spell at Barnsley during the second-half of the Championship season. After being signed by Paul Heckingbottom, the 21-year-old would go on to score nine goals and would win the Tykes’ Player of the Year award.
The Sun reports that Heckingbottom is now keen to bring McBurnie to Elland Road during the coming months as he heads into the final year of his contract at Swansea. But it appears that their hopes of signing the forward have suffered a major setback.
The Sun suggests that Steven Gerrard has given his approval to a £4 million bid being made for the youngster, and that has left a number of Whites fans feeling extremely disappointed.
Some of the Elland Road faithful feel that Rangers’ bid has knocked them out of the running before the race even got started, while others have urged director of football Victor Orta to forget about Jerry Mbakogu – the Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Leeds have first refusal to sign the Serie B striker for £3 million following negotiations in January – and pay that little bit extra to rival the Gers for McBurnie’s signature.
There have also been a couple of comments which have suggested that the size of Rangers’ bid should tempt Leeds to consider other targets as they believe that the Gers may be about to pay too much for McBurnie.
