Leeds United have announced that one of their most popular players, Pontus Jansson has signed a new five-year deal at Elland Road.
Leeds fans have been expressing their delight on Twitter after the club confirmed on their official website that Pontus Jansson has become the latest player to sign a new contract at Elland Road, with the defender agreeing a five-year deal.
Jansson has taken very little time to make himself a cult-hero for the Whites. He spent last season on loan with the Championship side, but it quickly became apparent that the Swede was one player Leeds simply could not let return to Torino.
The news that Leeds fans were craving came in February this year when the club confirmed on their official website that the centre-back would become a permanent Whites player when his loan expired, signing a three-year deal in the process.
But now, despite only being a handful of months into that three-year deal, Jansson has been rewarded by being handed a contract extension – and the Leeds fans are clearly delighted about the news.
Jansson’s form has not been quite as impressive this term, and he appears to have potentially fallen behind Liam Cooper and Matthew Pennington in the pecking order after the pair’s impressive performance in the win against Bristol City, but there are absolutely no questions about his quality.
And the fans who have taken to Twitter have echoed those thoughts – expressing their hope that the new contract is the catalyst and boost in confidence that Jansson needs to turn his recent form around.
