Grimes spent the 2016-17 campaign on loan at Leeds from Swansea.

Matt Grimes has told Swansea City’s official website that he does not believe his time at Leeds United reflected what he is capable of – but Leeds fans reacted hilariously, dismissing his claim.
The 23-year-old saw out the entire 90 minutes as Leeds held onto a 2-1 win at Elland Road against Graham Potter’s side. Goals from Jack Harrison and Pontus Jansson was enough to cancel out Olio McBurnie’s penalty.
Grimes – who was a £1.75million signing from Exeter in January 2015 – came close to finding the back of the net against his former side, clipping the outside of Kiko Casilla’s post from a free-kick.
The Swansea midfielder managed just 12 appearances during his loan spell in 2016-17 at Leeds, failing to break into the side under Garry Monk. He stated that his time at Leeds is not the kind of player he is right now.
“I feel I have improved as a player massively since my loan spell with them.” Grimes said. “I don’t feel my time at Leeds was a reflection of what I can do. I am the first to admit that it was a struggle, but I have moved on and grown from that.
“Now I feel confident with the Swans and I feel that is showing this season. I just want to keep giving good performances in the team and look forward to helping the side bounce-back from this result.”

Grimes has broken into the Swansea side this season, making 34 of his 41 career appearances for Swansea this season. Indeed, he has only missed one of Swansea’s 35 games when he was left on the bench against Leeds in August.
Leeds fans reacted to Grimes comments with his Elland Road loan still fresh in the memory. They commented in hilarious fashion, stating in no uncertain terms that they do not agree with Grimes’ comments.
