Leeds United’s Mateusz Klich won admirers for making light of ‘spygate’.

There’s no trophies handed out in January, except the one for Best Banter that we’ve just made up, the one that Leeds United’s Mateusz Klich has just won by a landslide.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side beat Derby County 2-0 on Friday against the backdrop of spying allegations.
It wasn’t quite the Hunt for Red October, rather some bloke who the Leeds boss sent to the Rams’ training session on Thursday to report what was happening, but it upset Derby fans – and it certainly irked manager Frank Lampard, who questioned the ‘ethics’ of what Bielsa had instructed.
Whether Leeds’ pre-match ploy had any bearing on what turned out to be a brilliant performance from the Championship leaders is up for debate.
But what can’t be debated – unless you’re a Derby supporter – is that Klich’s post-match reference to ‘spygate’ was brilliant.
Sky Sports cameras caught the Leeds midfielder putting both hands to his eyes in a ‘binocular’ gesture at full time and fans of the West Yorkshire club loved it on Twitter.
Will Klich have a Championship winner’s medal come May, to go with his non-existent Best Banter trophy? Very possibly.
United remain top of the division and if they can string together lengthy winning streak, the latest of which was ended after seven matches on December 29, then the Yorkshire giants will be favourites to finish top of the pile.
