Leeds United lost 1-0 at Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

Lee Bowyer manager of Charlton Athletic looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Wigan Athletic and Charlton Athletic at DW Stadium on September 21, 2019 in Wigan, England.

Leeds United suffered their first away defeat of the season on Saturday afternoon, losing 1-0 away at Charlton Athletic.

The Whites headed into the game having only managed a 1-1 draw at home to Derby County, giving up a late goal to squander two points.

Marcelo Bielsa will have been looking for a big response, but his side went 1-0 down in the first half as Macauley Bonne scored what proved to be the only goal of the game.

Bielsa threw on Adam Forshaw and Eddie Nketiah at half time to try and get back into the game, but Leeds couldn’t break down the Addicks as they slipped to a defeat.

Leeds fans will be concerned having seen their side score just three times in the last four league games, but they were given something to smile about from a surprise source.

After the final whistle on Saturday, Charlton boss Lee Bowyer headed over to the Leeds fans, and gave them to the Leeds salute, almost 17 years since he left the club for West Ham United as a player.

Bowyer, 42, has impressed in charge of Charlton, and Leeds fans took to Twitter to react to seeing him salute the travelling Whites supporters, with many backing him to replace Bielsa in the future.

Some branded Bowyer ‘next season’s manager’ and a ‘Leeds manager in the making’, believing he will be back at Elland Road one day having been a star as a player, believing his passion for the club is still alive.
