Leeds United’s Mateusz Klich was in action for Poland on Tuesday night.
The first international break of the season is almost over, and Leeds United fans can be mostly pleased with how their players have performed for their countries.
Stuart Dallas scored in Northern Ireland’s 3-0 win over Israel last night, Bailey Peacock-Farrell has put himself in the frame to be Northern Ireland’s first-choice goalkeeper, whilst Ezgjan Alioski has thrived with Macedonia.
The big story from Tuesday night though was surrounding midfielder Mateusz Klich, as he rescued a draw for Poland against the Republic of Ireland.
Aiden O’Brien had put Ireland 1-0 up in Wroclaw, but substitute Klich came off the bench to exchange passes with Arkadiusz Milik to score the equaliser in their friendly clash.
Klich, 28, has been recalled to the Poland squad having thrived under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds, hitting three goals and one assist in the first six Championship games this season.
Klich featured against Italy over the weekend but had to make do with a place on the bench against Ireland, before coming on to salvage the game late on.
Unsurprisingly, Klich’s goal sparked mass reaction from Leeds fans on Twitter, with some claiming that he is like a new signing having been frozen out and loaned to Utrecht by Thomas Christiansen last season.
Others jokingly compared Klich to Andrea Pirlo and suggest that he is the best midfielder in the world right now, whilst adding that his renaissance is a joy to watch and claiming that Adam Forshaw will struggle to get back into the Leeds side with Klich starring for club and country.
