Lonergan returned to Leeds United from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August.

It was assumed he was coming to Leeds United as little more than an understudy to Felix Wiedwald, but Andy Lonergan’s second Whites debut – after arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of August – has already prompted several changes of heart.
The 33-year-old only played 15 times for Wolves last season, and admitted after his exit he’d done ‘no goalkeeping at all’ in pre-season, after the captures of John Ruddy and Will Norris pushed him further down the pecking order at Molineux.

With six clean sheets in his first eight games for Leeds, Wiedwald would have perhaps considered his place in Thomas Christiansen’s first XI fairly secure. But a string of saves from Lonergan during Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at Burnley – in particular the one to deny James Tarkowski in a penalty shootout which Leeds won 5-3 – looks to have left the German with a battle on his hands.
Who will get the nod against Ipswich Town on Saturday? These Leeds fans believe the former Wolves man has as good a chance as any…
