Leeds United face Aston Villa in the Championship on Friday night.

Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Cardiff City and Leeds United at Cardiff City Stadium on September 26, 2017 in Cardiff, Wales.

There has been much debate on social media and among pundits regarding the fight for the place between the sticks at Leeds United between Andy Lonergan and Felix Wiedwald – but fans believe the latter is the better option.

Wiedwald, 27, returned to Thomas Christiansen’s starting line-up last time out as the Whites earned a superb 2-0 win over Barnsley at Oakwell after veteran stopper Lonergan had conceded four against Wolves.

Summer signing Wiedwald, who joined Leeds from German Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen had started the season as the club’s number one goalkeeper after Christiansen opted to sell Rob Green to Premier League side Huddersfield.

However, he was dropped by the Whites ahead of Leeds’ 1-0 loss to Reading in October, after conceding eight goals in three games. But Lonergan has managed just one clean sheet in the eight games he started.

Following Wiedwald’s clean sheet against Yorkshire rivals Barnsley, it remains to be seen who will start in goal at Elland Road on Friday night against an in-form Aston Villa side that have won their last three matches.

However, Leeds fans want German Wiedwald to start in the Leeds goalkeeper shirt, with one fan simply stating Wiedwald should start because “he has some quality” whereas Lonergan “doesn’t possess any.”
