Chris Wood took another step towards silencing his critics after he came off the bench to bag the winning goal to send Leeds United through to the fourth round of the EFL Cup.
Perhaps more due to squad rotation than anything else, the 24-year-old began the clash with their Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers on the bench.
But after watching the game remain goalless after 70 minutes, Peacocks boss Garry Monk decided to throw the former Leicester City man on in place of Marcus Antonsson.
And the substitution paid dividends as Wood’s close range header broke the deadlock with five minutes to go and proved to be the goal that sent Leeds through to the last 16 of the competition for the first time since the 2012-13 campaign.
The impact Wood made has certainly helped him win supporters back round after he came in for criticism earlier on in the season.
After a mixed first year at Elland Road, there was an expectation that he would enjoy a much better second term having fully adjusted to his new surroundings.

And while he scored against Fleetwood, Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday, a difficult patch after that run saw him dropped for the league clash with Blackburn last week.
But having come on and scored on that occasion, repeating the trick on Tuesday and scoring against Cardiff in between, Wood – who has now scored six goals in 10 games this term – has earned a lot of credit from the supporters who have taken to social media to praise his contribution in recent games.
