Kemar Roofe is linked with a move away from Leeds United.

Leeds United's Kemar Roofe celebrates scoring his side's equalising goal with Jack Clarke at Elland Road on October 27, 2018 in Leeds, England.

Kemar Roofe is the latest Leeds United star to be linked with a move away from Elland Road.

According to The Scottish Sun, Steven Gerrard will try and bring the Leeds hitman to Ibrox in a £5 million deal, if he loses Alfredo Morelos this summer.

There’s bound to be a lot of rumours flying around, given we’re in the middle of the transfer window, but this one doesn’t seem all that plausible.

Rangers would have him in a heartbeat, but it makes very little sense for Roofe to swap Leeds for the Gers right now.

This is a player who scored 15 Championship goals in 28 starts for Marcelo Bielsa’s side last season. It isn’t an outstanding return, but it’s good enough to indicate that he could easily exceed the 20-goal mark for the first time if he has an injury-free season this time around.

Roofe is only 26. He must have designs on testing himself in the Premier League, especially after coming so close to promotion last term with the Whites.

And whether it’s going up with Leeds next season or having a stand-out season that attracts bigger fish in the top tier, he really isn’t a million miles from plying his trade in the top flight. In fact, he has already been linked with Premier League sides, like Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

Rangers are a massive club, but the goal for a lot of Championship players is to test themselves in the Premier League, not the Scottish Premiership, and fans of the West Yorkshire side should be truly shocked if he winds up North of the border.
