From a Leeds perspective, there could be no real winners from watching Sheffield Wednesday take on Huddersfield Town in a play-off semi-final which they believed they should have been contesting.
But the way Sheffield Wednesday blew their chance was particularly pleasant viewing for Whites supporters.
Former Leeds defender Tom Lees netted an own goal to cancel out Steven Fletcher’s opener, before Fernando Forestieri missed the decisive spot kick in the penalty shoot out.

Forestieri was the forward who came close to signing for Leeds in 2015 before pulling out of a deal, choosing to sign for Wednesday instead.
His decision infuriated Leeds owner Massimo Cellino, who claimed it was they who cancelled the transfer, criticising his fellow Italian of not having the right mentality, via comments made to the club’s official website.

Forestieri has largely gone on to prove Cellino wrong, scoring 27 goals for the Owls across two seasons, but when it mattered most, he was found wanting last night.
Leeds fans have been taunted by Owls supporters after their own play-off tilt collapsed in the final month of the season, so this was a moment for them to enjoy, and they took great pleasure in doing so.
