Pontus Jansson was sensational in Leeds United’s victory that moves them three points clear at the top of the Championship.
A number of Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to proclaim that Pontus Jansson has rediscovered his very best form after the defender’s fantastic display during the Whites’ 3-0 win over Preston North End on Tuesday night.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men moved three points clear at the top of the Championship with a stunning victory over the Lilywhites at Elland Road. Liam Cooper broke the deadlock before Tyler Roberts scored his first two goals for the club during the second-half.
It was a superb display right through the team. But, while it may have been Cooper that scored the opening goal, surely no defender put in a better performance than Jansson.
The Swede’s ability to prove a colossus has not been a secret since his inspired loan spell at Elland Road, but there had been doubts over the last year as to whether he was going to rediscover that form after a much more difficult second campaign with the Whites.
But those doubts have emphatically disappeared after the 3-0 victory over Preston. Jansson was superb defensively, his reading of the game was remarkable, and his passing led to some supporters comparing the centre-back with Paolo Maldini and suggesting that he was a £20 million player.
Several fans believe that Jansson is now rediscovering his talisman-like form and are seriously excited about what is to come from the 27-year-old having gone into the new season slightly concerned about whether they were going to get the best or worst of Jansson under Bielsa.
