Coyle was awarded new terms on Thursday afternoon.

Leeds United fans were given a boost on Thursday afternoon as the club announced that Lewie Coyle has been rewarded with a new two-year contract extension.

Coyle has built a reputation as one of the brightest prospects at Elland Road over the last 11 months or so, and has already racked up 18 senior appearances in all competitions.

He has featured five times so far this term, albeit with four of those coming in the Whites’ ongoing EFL Cup run, but has not appeared in the Championship under Garry monk since the opening-day defeat to QPR.

Despite that lack of league game time, the 21-year-old full-back has signed a new two-year contract extension which is set to keep him at the club until 2019.

Coyle is a popular player with Leeds supporters both for his passionate and commitment style on the pitch and his obvious love for his boyhood club.

Leeds have developed a worrying reputation for losing many of their promising young stars in recent years, with Lewis Cook’s departure to Bournemouth this summer only fueling that fire.

Signing up Coyle for an extra two years, then, is undoubtedly a big boost for club and supporters, and fans were quick to show their appreciation of the move on Twitter.
