Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing Kyle Bartley this summer, but a deal was seemingly dependant on Swansea City staying up.

A number of Leeds fans have taken to express their feeling that the Whites’ hopes of signing Kyle Bartley from Swansea this summer have been dashed after the Swans fell closer to dropping out of the Premier League.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported towards the end of last month that Leeds had entered talks with the Swans about a deal that would see former Whites loanee Bartley head back to Elland Road on a permanent basis during the upcoming window.

However, the Yorkshire Evening Post added that Swansea would only listen to bids for Bartley if they manage to preserve their Premier League status this season. And following their latest result, it appears that that may be unlikely right now.

Carlos Carvalhal’s men were beaten 1-0 at home by Southampton in what was the epitome of a relegation six-pointer at the Liberty Stadium. Heading into the clash, the two sides were on the same number of points and sat either side of the drop zone line in the top flight.

Manolo Gabbiadini scored the only goal of a game that lacked quality but threatened plenty of drama to leave Swansea needing to win on the final day of the season and then requiring Huddersfield Town to lose both of their remaining two games for the Swans to stay up.

While those last games, on paper, should give the Swans some belief – they face bottom side Stoke City, while Huddersfield take on Chelsea and Arsenal – the situation is still very bleak and Leeds’ supporters believe that a move for Bartley – who earns £28,000 a week, according to Spotrac – is now looking incredibly unlikely.
