Everton manager Rafael Benitez has told the club’s official website that the Leeds United fans helped Marcelo Bielsa’s side a lot yesterday.
The Toffees played out a 2-2 draw with Leeds away from home at Elland Road in the Premier League yesterday.
Everton took the lead twice, but on both occasions, the Whites equalised, including a wonderful goal from Brazilian winger Raphinha.
As stated on Leeds’s official website, there were 36,293 fans at Elland Road for the match.
Everton had 2,843 supporters of their own.
Benitez told Everton’s official website: “We could see [against Southampton] how good our fans were for us. And we could see, today, how good Leeds’ fans were for them.”
Big occasion
This is Leeds’s second season back in the Premier League after going down in 2004.
Leeds fans could not make an impact at Elland Road last season due to coronavirus restrictions, and yesterday they showed how much of a help they are to the team.
The Leeds players were getting cheered and applauded throughout the 90 minutes, and they knew that they have a strong following to push them.
It is not going to be easy for Leeds to better last season, but with fans inside stadiums and for away matches, the players will have a ‘12th man’ behind them.
And with the football that Leeds play, fans will be thoroughly entertained this season.
