Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has been suspended for two games after deceiving the referee.

A number of Leeds United supporters on Twitter have suggested that the Football Association needs to show some consistency by handing out a two-match ban to Fabinho following the foul that led to Liverpool’s winner against Newcastle on Saturday.

The Whites were without Patrick Bamford for the trip to Ipswich Town on the final day of the Championship season, and will not have the striker available for the first-leg of their play-off semi-final after he was handed a two-match ban during the week.

Bamford was charged for diving during the melee involving Leeds and Aston Villa players that resulted in Anwar El Ghazi being sent off. Replays showed that Bamford was not touched, and he has rightfully received criticism throughout the week.

While few Leeds fans had any complaints about the decision to suspend Bamford, they did feel extremely disgruntled however, as Villa’s Conor Hourihane somehow escaped punishment for punching Mateusz Klich in the chest during the same melee.

And that is perhaps why some felt compelled to ask for Fabinho to be punished after he appeared to throw himself to the floor in a clash with Matt Ritchie. Admittedly, the two were battling in the moments before the foul was given, but the Reds star’s fall was incredibly over the top given that Ritchie had barely brushed his arm.

The moment proved decisive as Divock Origi scored the game’s winning goal from that free-kick. And of course, that win could have huge implications for the title race.

With that in mind, several Leeds supporters feel that the FA need to show consistency and suspend Fabinho as they cannot see that much of a difference between that incident at St James’ Park and the one that led to Bamford getting a two-match ban.
