Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has been named in the Sweden squad for the World Cup in Russia.

Pontus Jansson has been named in the Sweden squad for the 2018 World Cup; a move that some Leeds United fans believe could hasten his departure from Elland Road.
Jansson, who started 41 of the club’s 46 Championship matches last season, joins Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof, Swansea City pair Martin Olsson and Kristoffer Nordfeldt, Hull City’s Sebastian Larsson and Celtic’s Mikael Lustig as the the six British-based players named in Janne Andersson’s squad.
Jansson, who has featured regularly for his national team over the last two years, was omitted from the Leeds squad that travelled to Myanmar for their controversial post-season tour with the club anticipating his international call-up.

The announcement has prompted a mixed response from some sections of the Leeds support.
While there is the feeling a good showing in Russia next month will inevitably push him closer to the exit door, there is the hope that it will also increase his value and help bankroll the club’s transfer plans this summer.
In the wake of Leeds’ disappointing 13th place finish last season, Jansson bemoaned “another season thrown away” by the club but did suggest he could remain at the club for a third season next term.
