Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has hinted that key players could be sold to balance the books in the future.

Speaking to Forbes, the Italian football official revealed that his intention with Leeds is to run them as a self-sustaining club, meaning the sale players are key to the evolution of Leeds.

Radrizzani brought up the example of Leicester City, who through some huge player sales have managed to build and open a world-class training centre as well as give Brendan Rodgers the funds needed to sign and develop a quality team.

Indeed, Leeds’ current position in the Premier League might not allow the Yorkshire side to delve into such a venture. However, if the Whites can survive this season, it could be a solid plan for the future.

With the likes of Raphinha, Kalvin Phillips and Illan Meslier some of Leeds’ most prized players, the trio could in theory leave for huge fees which can go into investing and improving several areas of the club.

However, with Leeds in the precarious position they currently find themselves in, this model could be something that shoots them in the foot. And fans on social media are worried about Radrizzani’s comments to Forbes.

After all, whilst selling key players for profit is a flawless transfer strategy in football, it could allow sides like Leeds to suffer in the short-term despite the financial advantages.
