Rangers continue to be linked with a move to lure Tyler Roberts to Ibrox.
According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United have failed with a £4million bid for West Bromwich Albion striker Tyler Roberts – but Rangers could still land a bargain.
Roberts, 19, has been on the books at West Brom since the age of just seven, and he has been making his way up through the ranks over the years as he attempts to establish himself.
The striker has made just one first-team appearance for the Baggies though, and after hitting five goals in 19 games on loan at Walsall this season, he is attracting interest.
The Daily Mail claim that West Brom have snubbed a considerable offer of £4million from Leeds United for Roberts’ signature, but the Baggies now risk losing him for less than a tenth of that bid.
Roberts’ contract ends this summer, and whilst West Brom would be due hefty compensation from an English club given the forward’s age, cross-border contract rules mean Rangers can sign him for just £300,000.
It’s claimed that Rangers are hoping to land Roberts, and the fact that West Brom are turning down offers of £4million should sum up just how much of a bargain the Gers would be landing.
Quick and tricky with huge potential, Welsh youth international Roberts looks to have a bright future ahead of him, and whilst Rangers have brought in Jason Cummings this month, Roberts would offer further competition for Alfredo Morelos in attack.
Rangers have gone down this route before, landing Jordan Rossiter, Josh Windass and Joe Dodoo in bargain compensation deals, and whilst those three players have been something of a mixed bag, they should certainly plan a deal for Roberts.
West Brom are risking losing Roberts in a bargain deal this summer, and as Rangers look to chase down Celtic, landing a talented young attacker for a fraction of his value would be a superb move.
